Lot Description

Four Edwardian and later silver vesta cases, of varying shape and design, three with engraved initials, hallmarked Birmingham 1903, 1919 & 1939 and London 1921, various maker's marks. Together with a 1920's silver matchbox holder, of oblong engine-turned form with initial engraved central cartouche, hallmarked Chester 1924. Gross weight 5.7 ozt (178.5 grams). (5).

In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The London vesta case is further marked 'Clark 53 Conduit St Bond St W' and engraved with the initials 'A.G.E'. The 1919 example has the initial 'J' to the cartouche. The 1939 example is engraved with the initials 'A T C' between a motif of two guns crossed with the date '1915'. The matchbox holder is engraved 'C.G.M'. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible.
