In poor to fair condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The hinge of the Victorian example requires attention as it is loose, out of line and has some sideways movement, causing the top piece to over lap the bottom and not sit flush or shut securely, the press release is also not in working order and the pin sticks out at the top, there is some hardened residue on top of the monogram, the sprung platform is not in good working order, it appears to get stuck slightly when pressed, hallmarks clear and legible, the press release has a maker's mark for Alfred Wigley, alongside a date letter and lion passant. The unmarked example shuts securely, slightly difficult to open but the press release is working, the vacant cartouche has some tarnish marks.
