A late George II silver tankard, of plain baluster form with girdle detail and footed base, the domed lid with engraved latin inscription and openwork thumb-piece to a scroll handle with crested heart shape terminal. Hallmarked London 1757, maker probably Samuel Wood. Maximum height 7 1/4 inches (18.5 cm), weight 17.99 ozt (559.4 grams).

Condition Report
Displaying general tarnishing and surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. A few surface dints and bumps, mostly visible around and below the girdle, around the foot and to the top of the domed lid. Slight impression visible to the interior from the join of the base of the handle. Hinged lid closes flush. Hallmarked to underside of foot and interior of lid with a further maker's mark at base of handle. All rubbed but legible. Lid is engraved 'modicum et bonum'
