Lot Description

A silver and silver-gilt commemorative goblet for Chichester Cathedral, designed for the ninth centenary of its foundation, the tapering trefoil bowl with gilded interior and raised on a relief decorated wheat sheaf stem to a spread circular foot. Hallmarked Desmond Clen-Murphy for Aurum, London 1976 and further stamped Aurum, limited edition no. 222/600, with certificate. Height 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm), gross weight 10.46 ozt (325.4 grams).

The goblet appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches. Tarnishing to some areas. A few deeper scratches and some edge nicks to rim. Hallmarked to underside, clear and legible.

Impressed to underside 'Number 222 of a limited edition of 600 made by order of the Dean and Chapter to commemorate  the ninth centenary of the Foundation of Chichester Cathedral in 1075.'
