Lot 173

Lot Description

A set of six George III silver teaspoons, in plain Old English pattern with initial engraved terminal, hallmarked Peter, Ann & William Bateman, London 1804. Together with two early Georgian silver Hanoverian table spoons and four Victorian silver Fiddle pattern teaspoons. Weight 8.78 ozt (273 grams).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

All appear in fairly tired condition, displaying some general tarnishing and surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.  The bowls of the Bateman spoons have generally faired quite well with a couple of minor dints. Rubbing to hallmarks but still clearly legible, maker's marks partly worn but legible. Heavier wear to the bowls of the table spoons with some surface dints and bumps, slightly misshapen and loss of definition to heel drops. Hallmarks to one are heavily worn, other possibly dated  1772 with maker's mark I.D.  Three of the Victorian spoons also display heavier wear around edges and tips of bowls and one bowl with uneven and lumpy surface. Hallmarks to these all legible.
