Lot Description

A William IV silver vinaigrette, the rounded rectangular form with engine turned decoration and reeded sides, the hinged lid with name engraved central panel and floral thumb-piece opening to a silver-gilt interior with floral and foliate pierced grille. Hallmarked Joseph Willmore, Birmingham 1831. Length 3.8 cm, weight 17.9 grams.

Displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. A few minor dints and nicks. Heavier wear around edges and corners. Some rubbing and loss of surface detail to areas of decoration. Hinges appear in working order, edge spilt near to hinge on one side. Slight dint to grille at hinge end with possible repair in same area, visible more to reverse. A few heavier scratches to interior base, gilding a little faded. Hallmarks a little rubbed but all clearly legible. Grille struck with lion passant and maker's mark, partly cut out by piercing.
