Lot Description
A mid Victorian gold diamond and garnet snake necklace. The stylised foliate head, with old-cut diamond eyes and pear-shape garnet drop and crest, to the graduated snake-link chain. Estimated total diamond weight 0.10ct. Length 35cms. Weight 20.9gms.

<li>Overall condition good. Some surface scratches/wear in keeping with general age and wear.
<li>Garnet drop appears to be a later addition/ replacement.
<li>Replacement gems.
<li>Diamonds well matched.
<li>Diamonds bright.<p>
<li>Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.<p>
<li>Diamonds with some small inclusions under 10x magnification.
<li>Garnets possibly foil-back. Appear a deep slightly purplish red hue.<p>
<li>Garnets in good condition with minor abrasions.<p>
<li>Length of head (including drop) 5cms.
<li>Metal generally tests as approximately 19ct to 21ct, with probably plating. Garnet drop setting tests as approximately 9ct gold.
