Lot Description

A nineteenth century continental box, possibly Dutch, the curved oblong form and hinged lid with swing handle and engraved decoration depicting a domed building within foliate and stippled border surround, with similar foliate motifs to base and raised on four paw feet. Possible Dutch date letter for 1861 and a further partly obscured mark to interior. Length 5.25" (13.5cm), gross weight 5.16 ozt (160.5 grams).

Appears in fairly worn condition overall displaying some tarnishing with surface marks and scratches and many small dints and bumps. Heavier damage around corners

Some repairs, especially around corners and other joins.

Hinged lid appears in working order and closes fairly flush.

Interior with very worn and torn material lining (can be partly removed) and residues of glue.

Possible Dutch date letter 'b' and possible maker's mark? to interior. No other marks obviously visible.
