Lot Description

A George IV silver three piece tea service, comprising teapot, twin-handled sucrier and cream jug, each of compressed circular and fluted form with a chased band of trailing flowers and leaves enclosing twin-opposed cartouche, one crested and one monogrammed, above a central girdle, with similarly decorated applied rim borders, scroll handles and spout, a further flower finial to hinged lid of teapot and each raised on a foliate, shell and scroll footed base. Hallmarked William Bateman II, London 1828. Maximum length of teapot 11" (28 cm), gross weight 47.43 ozt (1475 grams).

Appears in good overall condition. Cleaned and polished appearance.

Displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches consistent with the age and use.

Some minor surface nicks and slight dints.

Minor surface rubbing to areas of decoration but generally still good.

Hinged lid of teapot appears in good working order and closes flush. Stained interior. Slight gaps around ivory insulators.

Sugar and cream with gilt interior.

Main hallmarks located to base of each, all clear and legible. Handle of teapot with matching maker's mark alongside lion passant and duty mark. Lion passant also struck to finial. Handles of sugar and cream appear unmarked and they are of a slightly different design to teapot handle. These two numbered 48 whereas teapot numbered 45.
