Lot Description

A George III silver pedestal cream jug, the ogee shape body decorated with punch-bead rim above a rural scene with trees, birds and animals, and with leaf capped double scroll handle. Hallmarks partly worn, London, probably 1779, maker's mark T.S? and possibly Thomas Shepherd. Maximum height 4.25" (11cm), weight 3.11 ozt (96.8 grams).

Displaying expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.

Surface dints and bumps. Several rim splits. Slight compression to foot and knocks to edge of base rim.

Rubbing to decoration with loss of surface detail to some areas. Traces of scratch initials to one side.

Circular patch applied to cartouche indicating either engraving removal or to hide one.

Hallmarks rubbed and worn, only parts visible.
