Lot Description

A late George II silver sauce boat, the oval ogee shape body with gadroon rim above a stag crest engraving to one side, with a foliate capped scroll handle and the whole raised on an oval collet foot with conforming gadroon border detail. Hallmarked William Skeen, London 1758. Height including handle 5.5" (14cm), weight 13.83 ozt (430.3 grams).

Appears with some heavy tarnishing throughout and would benefit from a clean and polish.

Displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.

Some surface nicks and pitting marks. These appear heavier to the centre of the interior where there is a circular patch. There are various solder marks to the short stem and floods of solder around the inside of the foot to the underside which further indicate repairs or restoration to the foot. Metal far brighter in appearance to the underside of foot.

Seam lines to handle with some visible solder.

Crest rubbed and worn.

Hallmarks partly worn but still legible.
