Lot Description

A large 19th century mahogany Campaign style writing slope, of rectangular form with brass escutcheon and twin recessed handles concealing two drawers, the hinged cover with central personally engraved inset brass plaque opening to reveal a later green baize lined slope with compartments beneath, and a further five divisions, three with removable covers, 35.75" x 15" x 8" (91cm x 38cm x 20.5cm).

Mahogany with wear, surface and deeper scratches, split to front panel and cover and a number of nocks and small indentations. Brass handles, plaques and interior brass corner mounts tarnished and worn. Cover does not close flush to. Drawers to sides do not open well. Slope to cover does not open and mechanism is jammed shut on one side. Interior compartments all worn and covers with some losses to edges.
