Lot Description

A mid 19th century 18ct gold sewing set, with ebony case.

Three components with French assay marks.
Length of needle case 7.3cms.
Gross weight (excluding case) 33.8gms.

<li>Needle case and scissors with very slight, small holes to the repousse work.
<li>Pencil with small dents at the tip.
<li>Iron components with general discolouration, slight rust.
<li>Scissors, one handle has come off and been glued back, glue visible, general slight discolouration. Does not appear to quite fit securely within the case.
<li>Maker's mark to some pieces ED with a scrolling arrow between and dots either side of the initials.
<li>Case front and thimble engraved DP, pencil top engraved D.
<li>Case has a split to one side, general scratches and scuffs.
<li>Case does close securely, catch is stiff, slight gap at the front of the case.
<li>Pieces electronically test between 17.5-18ct gold.
<li>Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
