Full Lot Description

A George III silver snuff box, of rounded rectangular form, slightly curved with reeded decoration throughout, hallmarked London 1804, maker's mark distorted, length 2" (5.3cm). Together with a similar smaller example, hallmarked Birmingham 1806 or 1807, length 1.75" (4.5cm). Gross weight 2.22 ozt (69 grams). (2).

<li>Both boxes displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing consistent with their age and use.

<li>Both with some minor surface nicks, and slightly heavier wear around edges and corners.

<li>Surface wear and rubbing to the reeded decoration with slight loss of detail to some areas, but overall has retained much of the detail.

<li>The large box dated 1804 with some dints and knocks to the rounded corners, and split to one corner, near to hinge.

<li>Hinges to both boxes appear in good working order and both lids close securely.

<li>Gilt interior with some surface wear and scratches, and resides of dirt/polish around inside edges, more so the larger box and especially to the split corner. Gilt interior appears brighter on smaller box.

<li>Hallmarks located to interior base and reverse of lid on the larger box; these rubbed in parts and a little distorted; maker's mark possibly I.A.

<li>Hallmarks on smaller box located to rim of lid, all legible but also a little rubbed and distorted in places. Maker's mark with only letter M visible.
