A cast iron Tamanny mechanical money box designed by John D. Hall and originally patented on 23rd December 1873 modelled as a seated man taking a coin from his hand to his pocket, all to a wooden plinth, height 23cm
The seated man is believed to have been based on the New York City Democratic Party leader William Marcy Tweed, and American politician and leader of Tammany Hall. The Tweed ring defrauded New York City of millions of dollars.
