Full Lot Description
A William IV silver snuff box, of rectangular form with moulded border edge and engine turned panels and canted corners, the interior with personal inscription 'Presented to Joseph Ballingult Esq by the Family of the late Vice Adml Sir Thos Harvey KCB as a trifling return for his kindness in superintending the erection of a Monument to their late Father'. Hallmarked Joseph Willmore, Birmingham 1837. Measuring 9cm x 5cm x 2.5cm, weight 1.34ozt (166g).
Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Harvey KCB (1775-1841) was a senior officer in the Royal Navy. He saw service in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars and served under his father at the Glorious First of June (1st June 1794). He died as commander-in-chief on the West Indies Station and is buried in Bermuda.
