Full Lot Description
British Art Medal Society. Homage to Collectors Cast Bronze Medal by John Lobban. Tallix Morris Singer and Royal Mint, 1990. 100mm diameter. Edition of 85.
From the BAMS website: Lobban is a noted water-colourist and one of Britain’s foremost numismatic artists. About his BAMS medal, the artist has written: ‘The medal is in honour of those who support medallists – the collectors. On the obverse, the impulse-buying collector is represented by a magpie who has picked up something way beyond his means. His opposite, the collector who, having bought carefully for investment, buries his treasure for safety, is represented by the squirrel. The reverse shows another aspect of collecting, the sheer joy of the chase.’. Cast in silver, engraved and chased in the metal, and subsequently cast in bronze by Tallix Morris Singer and the Royal Mint.
