Full Lot Description

A George III silver salver, of shaped circular form with gadroon rim enclosing floral scroll decoration to the centre, and raised on three claw and ball feet. Hallmarked London 1780, marker's mark partly distorted, possibly 'I.S'. Maximum diameter 26cm, weight 17.11ozt (532.3g).

  • Displaying some general surface wear, marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use
  • Some general tarnishing all over with blackening/polish residues to some areas
  • Some heavier scratched marks and surface nicks visible to the centre of the salver
  • The centre of the salver also feels quite springy when pressed
  • Surface wear and rubbing to areas of the decoration, causing slight loss of detail or definition to some areas
  • Stands firm on its feet
  • Hallmarks located to the base, these are rubbed in parts but all still legible
  • Maker's mark is partly distorted, possibly reads 'I.S'. Similar to various maker's marks, including Joseph Steward II, John Sidaway or James Sutton
