Here we have a fine limited edition Jaeger LeCoultre 'Atmos du Millenaire' limited edition ‘Atlantis’
mantel clock which features in our upcoming
Antiques & Collectables sale on Tuesday 21st November. Designed by Frenchman Robert Kohler to celebrate the passing of the new Millennium, this clock works as with all ‘Atmos’ clock via changes in barometric pressure, as a kind of hybrid between a clock and an aneroid barometer. Within the mechanism there is a vacuum, and a ‘tin can’ which then expands and contracts with changes in the atmosphere, and these small movements keep the mechanism running far beyond normal ‘key-wound’ clocks.
Lot 682 from our upcoming Antiques & Collectables auction on 21 November. Estimate: £3,000 - £4,000
Fellows have sold some of the best modern Jaeger LeCoultre clocks before, having been the first UK Auctioneers to sell the Marc Newson 561 clock; as with this precedent, the ‘Atlantis’ is sold with original packaging, boxed manual and guarantee, numbered quality control card, and the whole is in fine unused condition.
The striking spiral calendar runs to the year 3000, suggesting both permanence and the future, and the design resembles a spaceship. We have paired it here with a sixteen-tile pottery panel also in the sale,
Lot 102, designed by Alan Clarke (formerly of Poole Pottery). One of two such panels in the sale, we also have further modern Poole ceramics from a single-owner collection.
Lot 102 from our upcoming Antiques & Collectables sale. Estimate: £120 - £180
