Lita Cabellut is a Spanish-born contemporary artist whose life story is as compelling as her work. Born in 1961 in Spain, Cabellut spent her early years in challenging circumstances before being adopted at the age of 12. Her life took a transformative turn at 19, when she moved to the Netherlands to study at the prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Since then, the Netherlands has remained her creative home, with her studio and residence established in The Hague.

Cabellut's art is instantly recognisable thanks to her signature fresco-style technique. This distinctive method, inspired by the old masters, gives her portraits a cracked, weathered appearance, evoking a sense of timelessness and emotional depth. Her large-scale canvases often explore themes of human fragility, strength, and identity, merging classical inspiration with modern sensibilities.

Over the years, her powerful work has captured international attention. Her paintings have been exhibited in major museums and galleries worldwide, spanning Europe, Asia, and the United States. Her innovative approach and moving subjects earned her the title of Artist of the Year in the Netherlands in 2021, a recognition that reflects both her artistic brilliance and cultural impact.

Cabellut is not only a painter but a storyteller, using texture, colour, and form to speak to the soul. Her works invite viewers to look beyond the surface and connect with the raw essence of human experience. From her humble beginnings in Spain to her acclaim on the world stage, Lita Cabellut’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of art.
