Howson paintings to go under the hammer

Fellows Auctioneers of Birmingham are set to auction fourteen paintings by the renowned Scottish artist Peter Howson on 23rd May in their Jewellery Quarter saleroom.

Peter Howson is best known for his large format canvasses, filled with masculine figures often along a redemptive and religious theme. Trained at the Glasgow School of Art in the seventies, Howson was commissioned as the official British War Artist during the 1993 Bosnian civil war, depicting the atrocities of the conflict, often from the victims’ point of view.

The collection offered at Fellows on 23rd May is a range of artwork, from an eight-inch scene depicting demons to a seven-foot crucifixion scene, previously exhibited at the St. Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, Glasgow.

All paintings in the collection may be viewed in London on 17th & 18th by appointment and in Birmingham from 19th – 21st May with viewing prior to the sale.
