Lot Description

George III silver tankard with tapered body and reeded band decoration, a flat top hinged lid with openwork stylised shell thumb piece, personal engraving to the lid. Hallmarked London 1797, makers mark part rubbed. Hallmark to the inside of the lid is very rubbed and indistinguishable. Height including thumb piece measures 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), weighing 14.88 ozt (462.8 grams).

The tankard is good condition for its age, with general wear and tear scratches to the whole piece, there's a shallow dent about 2 cm long to the main body The lid does not close flush, there's a small gap. There's a small dint to the rim of the tankard, and also to the rim of the base. The solder join to the side of the tankard and handle is becoming visible. Some build up of polish and tarnish to the crevices. The hallmarks to the inside of the lid are indistinguishable and the lid wobbles on its hinge, hallmarks to the body are legible except the makers mark which could possibly read RC or RG.
