Lot 42

Lot Description

A late Victorian sugar bowl embossed with floral scroll and vacant cartouche, hallmarked Sheffield 1899, height measuring 2 1/2 inches (6.5 cm). Together with an Edwardian silver sifter spoon, hallmarked J Sherwood & Sons Birmingham 1904. Gross combined weight 4.2 ozt (132 grams). (2).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both items display general scratches, marks and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The sugar bowl displays a dent to the rim, a few minor tears to the frilled rim detail and remnants of old polish to the embossing. The overall shape of the bowl at the rim  is oval, this is possibly not as made. The cartouche is currently vacant and the hallmarks clear and legible, the makers mark partly rubbed. The bowl to the sifter spoon has previously been gilded, this has now worn, also remnants of old polish to the fluting and detail. The hallmarks on the spoon are clear and legible.
