Lot Description

An early Victorian 18ct gold key wind open face pocket watch by William Hughes, the gilt dial having rose gold hue Roman numeral hour markers, inner patterned panel, key wind aperture to four o'clock and outer minute track, the case, hallmarked London 1843, with milled middle and engine turned design to rear, fitted with a gilt full plate fusee and chain movement signed William Hughes London, numbered 2737 with verge escapement, undersprung balance, pierced balance cock and diamond end stone. Case diameter 43mm.

Open faced pocket watch, key winding manual movement is currently functioning, dial has light scratching and the numerals show marks and scratches, hands show tarnishing and the minute hand is noticeably distorted, glass has marks and light scratching, case has marks and scratches as a result of general use, case band show various dents, case band also has visible scratching between 1 and 2 o'clock, back of the case has some small dents.
