Lot 604

Lot Description

Edwardian silver mounted ruby glass scent bottle, the cylindrical glass form with foliate embossed silver gilt collar and hinged cover, the cover also set with four cabochon paste stones (probably amethyst).  Hallmarked Birmingham 1903, maker's mark partly obscured but possibly G E Walton & Co Ltd.  Maximum height measures 8cm.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The item displays general wear commensurate with the age and use.  The silver collar and cover are quite tarnished and the gilding has worn, especially on the exterior.  There are some small dints and nicks in the metal.  The hinge is in working order but is now a little loose.  The stopper is deficient and a couple of the stones are quite loose.  The main hallmarks on the collar are legible although the maker's mark is partly distorted.  There are also part hallmarks to the interior of the cover.  There are light surface marks and scratches to the ruby glass and some rim nicks around the interior rim.
