Lot Description

A small Japanese carved ivory okimono of a tailor and assistant. Meiji period, circa 1900 modelled in standing pose holding dressmaking scissors, one foot raised upon a small stool, with young attendant, a bag at his feet, on a mound base, red two-character mark beneath, 4" (10cm) high

There is a crack to the back of the robe and a lesser one through right foot and into the footstool. The figure has probably held something in his left hand. The assistant, bag and base are carved separately.
