Lot Description

A late George III inlaid oak cased eight day longcase clock with centre seconds sweep by John Wignall of Ormskirk, circa 1795. Having a 14" white painted circular Roman dial inscribed 'JOHN WIGMALL Ormskirk' with neoclassical brass hour and minute hands, plus a plain second sweep, the knopped four pillar movement with anonymous false plate, rack striking on a bell. The case having a swan-necked pediment with inlaid terminals over husk patera on fluted columns with brass capital flanking circular glazed door with shaded bats wing spandrels, the ogee arched crossbanded trunk door with central patera between reeded pilasters over matching panel and canted base, raised on a later plinth. 86" (218.5cm) high
