Lot Description

An imposing ebonised triple-fusee chiming bracket or table clock. Anonymous, circa 1900, having an 8" arched brass dial, the silvered chapter ring with Roman hours, Arabic minutes and starburst half hour divisions framing a matted centre, within cast rococo spandrels beneath twin subsidiary dials for Chime/Silent and Westminster Chimes/Chime on 8 Bells/Chime on 10 bells respectively, the chain-driven triple-fusee movement, striking and chiming on five coiled gongs via a pin-barrel, and quarter-chiming on a carillon, the case having a caddy top with flambeau urn finials over cast terms, arched bezel, cavetto-moulded plinth and scroll feet, the sides with arched mask-centred sound frets, one with pull-repeat cord, 27", (68.5cm) high.

Dial - excellent.

Movement - excellent, though gongs rusted.

Case - flame to central finial is missing. Minor knocks to roof. Wide crack to front, both above and beneath bezel. A few knocks to base. Rear door detached but present - screw holes need filling and re-drilling. Open side door edge is missing 3"/7.5cm of overhanging moulding, about 0.2"/5mm wide. Some scuffs and a corner crack to rear door frame.
