Lot Description

A late Victorian rock crystal brooch, circa 1890, the oval rock crystal cabochon with rough hewn reverse, within an embossed floral surround. Length 4.3cms.

The lot is in good overall condition with light scratches and small dents in keeping with general wear. The pin, clasp and hinge are base metal replacements. There are various small soft solder repairs visible to the back of the brooch. The safety chain is not original. The cabochon is not set quite level within its mount with a small rough area visible to the side. The back of the rock crystal cabochon is rough and fractured with iron oxide and other staining near the surface in various small cracks which is visible at the front of the brooch (intentionally?). The surface of the cabochon has many surface scratches. There are some small dark inclusions near the edges of the cabochon.
