Lot Description

Late Victorian silver basket of shaped oval form,  the lobed sides pierced with geometric motifs below an ornately embossed border of flowers, foliage and grotesque masks, the centre of the dish decorated with ribbon garlands and bows, the whole standing on an octafoil shape footed base with conforming floral decoration.  Hallmarked George Nathan & Ridley Hayes, Birmingham 1894.  Maximum height measures 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), maximum length measures 10 inches (25.5 cm), weight 13.78 ozt (428.6 grams).

The basket displays general surface marks and scratches and some tarnishing.  There are a couple of minor splits in the metal  There are some surface nicks and dints, and two larger dints around the base of the dish, just below the pierced decoration.  Hallmarks are clear and legible.
