Lot Description

Two 19th century 'Grand Tour' souvenir bronzes after Giambologna, (1524-1608). Modelled as Mercury and Flora, he with winged helmet (petasos) and sandals (talaria), his left hand holding the handle of a missing caduceus, his right leg raised, she holding a palm frond and perizonium, her left leg raised, each standing upon on a cherub mask base and rosso antico marble pedestal decorated with a bronze relief frieze of cavorting cherubs, 32.5" and 30.75", (83cm and 78cm) high respectively.

Mercury lacks all but handle of caduceus. He may have held a pouch in his right hand (as Hermes).
Both figures have been polished so lack any patination. Typical small pock marks to cast, plus some dints and knocks commensurate with age. Both marble bases have chipping but base to Mercury also has significant losses to base.
