Lot Description

A mid-Victorian brass-bound walnut lap desk. The hinged rectangular cover centred by a brass cartouche within brass strapwork, corners and enclosing a gilt-edged skiver beneath pen tray and compartments, a secret compartment within, over conforming brass-inlaid front with escutcheon, 17.75" x 9.75" x 7" high, (45cm x 25cm x 18cm), sold with a receipt from the Newport Furniture Mart (W. J. & M. Lewis) dated 1919 for "1 Writing Desk £3-0-0" together with an oak cased cutlery set
