Lot 654

Lot Description

William IV silver vinaigrette of rectangular form, the body engraved with various wrigglework borders and basket weave to the lid surround the vacant cartouche, the lid opening to reveal a silver-gilt interior with hinged foliate pierced grille. Hallmarked Thomas Shaw Birmingham 1831. Length measuring 3.2 cm, weight 17.2 grams.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The vinaigrette appears in good overall condition displaying general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. When the vinaigrette is fully shut the lid rises to one side not fully closing. The lid catches slightly when opening on the grille. The gilding to the interior remains relatively bright, deposits of polish to the pierced decoration. The hallmarks are lightly rubbed but clear and legible.
