Lot Description

An early twentieth century silver mounted inkwell of octagonal capstan form, the hinged lid with green guilloché enamel and white border opening to reveal a clear glass liner. Hallmarked Henry Matthews Birmingham 1911. Height measuring 2 inches (5 cm).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The lid does not quite sit flush. Wooden base. The black borders to the enamel are perhaps alterations and appear to be oxidised, showing some wear. The enamel overall appears in good condition. Some minor dents to the bottom rim. The hallmarks are clear and legible.
