Lot Description

Late Victorian silver small box of rectangular form, oblique gadrooned style decoration throughout, the hinged cover with curved corners and central oval vacant panel.  Hallmarked William Comyns & Sons, London 1891.  Length measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), height 2 inches (5 cm), weight 6.11 ozt (190 grams).

The box displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Deeper tarnishing to some areas and remnants of polish visible.  Various deeper scratches, nicks and some surface dints, also some seam lines are visible.  There is a possible repair near to the base rim on one end as there is a flood of solder visible to the interior and damage to the metal on the exterior.  Hinged cover in working order.  Inner flange also marked with retailer.  Some of the hallmarks appear quite rubbed and distorted.
