Lot 585

Lot Description

George IV silver vinaigrette of rectangular form, with stippled and engraved decoration to top and base and central monogrammed panel to the top (grille deficient), hallmarked Birmingham 1823, maker's mark 'T.S', tentatively attributed to Thomas Shaw;  together with an Edwardian silver card case, hallmarked Joseph Gloster Ltd., Birmingham 1907.  Combined gross weight 2.18 ozt (68 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both items are in poor condition and display general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Heavy tarnishing is visible and both would benefit from a clean and polish.  There is loss of detail to the decoration on the vinaigrette and several surface dints, especially to the top.  Some splits in the metal around the hinges and the grille has now broken off.  Hallmarks to interior are slightly rubbed but still legible.  There are numerous dints to the card case, to main body and especially to edges and corners.  The hinged lid is now slightly misshapen.  Maker's mark is slightly rubbed but other hallmarks are clear and legible.
