Lot 59

Lot Description

Late Victorian silver pair of open salts, each of plain circular form with slightly tapering sides and standing on three ball feet, hallmarked Birmingham 1881, with maker's mark J B & S. Together with a small retractable pencil with amber coloured paste stone finial.  Weight of salts 1.95 ozt (61 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

All three pieces display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  The pair of salts display some deeper scratches and nicks and also some heavier spots of tarnishing.  Some minor dints and bumps and the rims are slightly misshapen.  Some rubbing but the hallmarks are mainly legible, however there is some heavier rubbing to the maker's marks on both, and on one of the salts the mark is now illegible.  No hallmarks on the pencil.
