Lot Description

An Austrian early 20th century silver amethyst and enamel mesh evening bag, the curved frame, with blue enamel and foliate engraving, to the amethyst double-clip fastener, together with a 1930s silver rectangular compact with stepped initial monogram. Austrian marks to the bag. Hallmarks for Birmingham, 1939 to the compact.  Lengths 17.5 and 7.6cms.

The bag is in overall condition fair to good. Some surface wear and tarnishing in keeping with general wear. Enamel in good condition with minor abrasion. One chain link open and in need of repair. Significant string/thread repairs to the mesh bag where it joins to the frame. Amethysts differ slightly in appearance, purple, fair colour saturation. Fairly good clarity with typical inclusions. The compact is in overall condition fair to good. Some surface wear in keeping with age. Light tarnishing. Light scratches and wear to the textured panels. A minor indent to the front panel. Wear and discolouration to the gilt interior. Significant scattered discolouration to the mirror. Initial monogram for 'VV'. Weight including mirror panel 68.9gms. Stamped Regd 825639.
