Lot 57

Lot Description

A George III pair of Irish silver open salts, the circular form with engraved crests, silver-gilt interiors, gadrooned rim interspersed with foliate shell details and raised on four shell capped ball feet. Hallmarked Dublin 1812, with marks for William Hamy and James Scott. Height measuring 2 inches (5 cm), gross weight 7.1 ozt (222 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both salts display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use.  Tarnishing is visible and they would both benefit from a clean and polish.  The gilded interiors are quite worn, faded or discoloured to some areas.  Some minor surface dints.  There is a knock to the ball foot on one of the salts and it is now leaning inwards.  The hallmarks are clear and legible.
