Lot 66

Lot Description

A George IV silver chamberstick snuffer of plain tapered form, hallmarked Birmingham 1820, maker's mark MIB(?), similar to the mark of Matthew Boulton Plate Co, height measuring 4 cm. Together with a further similar snuffer, hallmarks rubbed, height measuring 8 cm. Gross weight 34 grams. (2).

Both snuffers display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use.  The larger example displays several small dints, nicks and creases in the metal throughout.  The hallmarks on this snuffer are very distorted and difficult to read.  The hallmarks on the smaller example are clearer.
