Lot 565

Lot Description

A Hanau silver novelty box modelled as a cockerel treading a hen, with an oval hinged base. Struck with three marks to the reverse of the lid, including a 'G' below a crown, a fleur-de-lis motif and a 'WK' monogram below a crown, tentative attribution to Wolf & Knell, Hanau (1887-1914), similar marks also seen for Neresheimer. Maximum length measures 8 cm, weight 58.7 grams.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The box displays some general wear including surface scratches, marks and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Slight loss of surface detail to some of the plumage decoration.  The hinged lid is in working order, although it is a little loose.  Several heavier scratches, contact marks and minor nicks to the underside of the lid.  The Hanau marks are a little rubbed and distorted but still legible.
