Lot Description

An Elizabeth I Apostle spoon, scratch engraved to the bowl reverse 'AW', Apostle terminal with pierced nimbus and traces of gilding. Hallmarked London 1572 with the maker's mark F ?, see English Goldsmiths and their marks, Jackson, London goldsmith's marks 1571-2. Length measuring 6 7/8 inches (17.5 cm), weight 1.7 ozt (55 grams).

Some expected rubbing with loss of definition to the Apostle, bowl and details of the spoon. Much of the detail to the Apostle terminal remains. Doming of the nimbus. Traces of gilding to the terminal.  A little dimpling to the bowl. There is a little wear to the bowl edges.  'V' joint visible to the top of the stem/base of the terminal plinth with slight pitting. The hallmarks appear in varied state, considering age, in most clear and legible, possibly maker's mark however noticeably worn and illegible.
