Lot 699

Lot Description

An Edwardian silver combination vesta case and sovereign holder, of oblong form with foliate scroll engraving and vacant shield cartouche, with striking end hinge opening and central hinge opening with push release button, also with suspension loop, hallmarked Joseph Gloster, Birmingham 1903. Together with a later vesta case decorated with leaf patterns, hallmarked Birmingham 1913 or 1938, same maker. Gross combined weight 78.8 grams. (2).

Total lot weight: No

Both cases appear in fair overall condition, displaying some general wear including surface scratches and nicks, contact marks and tarnishing commensurate with their age and use. Slight loss of detail or definition to some of the decoration. Slight break at the central hinge of the combination case and would require attention. Other hinges and clasps appear in good working order. Engraved initials to cartouche on later case but these are now very worn. The hallmarks are mainly clear and legible, rubbing to the part hallmarks on the coin holder. Suspension loops also struck with lion passant mark.
