Lot Description

A George III silver vinaigrette of plain oblong form with canted corners, the hinged cover with engraved monogram, opening to reveal a silver-gilt interior with pierced filigree grille, hallmarked Joseph Taylor, Birmingham 1801. Length measuring 3 cm, weight 12.7 grams. (A/F).

In poor condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Requires attention, the hinge lifts and comes away at one end and therefore does not shut fully flush. The hinge of the grille is broken and not attached, the pin is missing. Seam is visible to the back. Minor dints and scratches to the sides and edges. Engraved with a personal monogram. Remnants of polish visible. Hallmarks rubbed and worn but still just legible.
