Lot Description

A 1920's silver mustard pot, of plain rectangular form with engraved floral rim border, the hinged lid opening to reveal a blue glass liner leading to a curved thumb-piece handle, the whole raised upon four shell mounted claw feet, hallmarked D & M Davis (David & Maurice Davis), Birmingham 1921, width measures 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), together with an associated condiment spoon, hallmarked Birmingham 1922, plus a silver five bar toast rack of high arch form with central ring handle, Sheffield 1973. Gross weight exclusive of liner 3.3 ozt (104.2 grams).

In good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The hinged lid appears slightly loose moving sideways but shuts fully flush, heavier tarnishing along the edges and corners and around the feet. Mustard pot and toast rack both have remnants of polish visible. Hallmarks clear and legible. The condiment spoon has a maker's mark for S W Smith & Co. The mustard pot is further stamped 'D & M Davis Birmingham' to the base and the toast rack is further stamped 'Mappin & Webb Ltd Sheffield & London'.
