Lot 392

Lot Description

An early nineteenth century French silver snuff box, the curved oblong form with gadroon style decoration throughout. Paris assay mark for 950 fineness, also with a Paris guarantee mark and a maker's mark. Measuring 2 3/4 inches (7 cm) by 1 3/4 inches (4.5 cm), weight 1.65 ozt (51.4 grams).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The snuff box is quite tarnished, especially to the interior, and would benefit from a clean and polish. Some general surface wear, marks and scratches. Small dints to the corners and there is a small loss to one side of the hinge. Hinged lid appears in working order although it does not close flush, rising slightly when in the closed position. Assay marks are legible, maker's mark is a little distorted.
