Lot Description

An Edwardian travelling vanity set, comprising seven facetted glass jars having silver mounted embossed covers, a silver mounted embossed hair brush and clothes brush, a silver mounted hipflask with detachable cup, a silver mounted hinged inkwell, a silver mounted and ivory page turner, a silver mounted and ivory pair of glove stretchers, a silver mounted shoe horn, hallmarked Mappin & Webb Ltd., London 1904, plus a cased mirror, a cased notebook, pen and pencil set, a base metal and mother-of-pearl manicure set, a cased sewing kit, a leather card case, a pair of hair tongs with ivory handles, a cased lighter and cased glass ink pot, all fitted within a large leather suitcase and cover. Case length measures 16 inches (40.5 cm).

In fair to good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. One compartment empty below the jars, one glass jar, one hair brush and one leather card case missing. Silver mounted pieces have vacant cartouches. The leather case is marked Mappin & Webb Ltd. Interior lining with minor scuffs and scratches. The outer case cover has a remnant from a sticker to the top. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible.
