Lot 313

Lot Description

A small selection of items to include an Edwardian silver vesta case, of oblong dual hinged form with engraved foliate motifs, the front hinged panel with vacant shield cartouche opening to reveal a hidden interior oval aperture, hallmarked Birmingham 1906, maker's mark probably Joseph Gloster, width measures 3.4 cm. Together with a George V silver matchbox sleeve, Birmingham 1912, a small 1930's silver mounted capstan inkwell with presentation inscription, a pair of Edwardian silver handled glove stretchers and a modern silver compact case. Gross weighable silver 1.8 ozt (59 grams). (5).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

In overall fair condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The hidden interior compartment is quite tarnished with contact marks from the aperture to the case, but the panel shuts flush and securely, minor loss of definition to the engraved decoration. The matchbox sleeve is slightly squashed. The inkwell is engraved 'To Mr Barrett Saracens Xmas 1945 From all the Staff' to the hinged cover, which sits out of line with the base as the hinge is loose with some sideways movement and has a split near the join, requires attention, the base of the inkwell is filled, no glass liner present. The glove stretchers have a steel component which is quite rusted with some holes/losses to the embossed handles. The compact case has an interior rim piece which can be removed, marked T. APP. No 573/63, would benefit from a clean and polish. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible.
