Lot Description

A late Victorian silver mounted aide memoire, the front of the oblong case embossed with five cherubs amidst clouds within floral corner borders, opening to reveal a material lined compartmentalised interior with ivory page and pencil holder. Hallmarked Chester 1897, maker's mark partly obscured possibly James Deakin & Sons (John & William F Deakin). Length measuring 4 1/8 inches (10.3 cm).

In fair condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Minor loss of definition to the embossed decoration. The case does not shut fully flush or secure and the push button does not appear to be in working order. Maker's mark partly obscured possibly James Deakin & Sons (John & William F Deakin), other hallmarks clear and legible, partial hallmarks to various sections. The ivory page has some pencil marks and slight discolouration. The interior lining has some minor stains and dirt residue.
