Lot Description

An Edwardian silver matchbox sleeve of plain oblong form, hallmarked Elkington & Co Ltd., Birmingham 1908, length measures 7.6 cm. Together with a 1930's silver vesta box, of oblong engine-turned form, the hinged lid opening to reveal an engraved personal inscription, the base with disposable striking plates, hallmarked S J Rose & Son, London 1936. Gross weight 3.8 ozt (119.8 g). (2).

In fair to good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The matchbox sleeve has minor bumps and remnants of polish to the interior. The vesta box has some dents to the corners and the base is slightly creased, the inscription to the interior reads 'March 30th 1918-1943 with love D Land?', the base compartment is heavily tarnished and the lid has a dull silver-gilt appearance. Hallmarks rubbed in places but still legible.
